Family Highlights Calaveras Big Trees State Park. We were checking out the venue where my brother will be wed. HUGE Redwoods,beautiful campground and trails. In addition to the popular North Grove, the Park features South Grove, a five mile hiking trip through a spectacular grove of giant sequoias in their natural setting. Other attractions in the Park include the Stanislaus River, Beaver Creek, the Lava Bluff Trail and Bradley Trail. The Park also houses two main campgrounds with a total of 129 campsites, six picnic areas and hundreds of miles of established trails.
Dining Highlights Grounds Restaurant. And there's a little deli on the main street that had an amazing roasted turkey and smoked gouda panini. And Hazelnut Gelato!
Shopping Known as a fantastic wine region, tasting rooms abound.

Local Transportation Car
Prices Affordable
Fun For Kids My 3 year old daughter played in the creek right in the heart of this quaint town. Kid and dog friendly. Adorable cottages avail. for about 150 a night. 2 bedrooms,fireplace,full kitchen. 5 min. walk to town if that.
Fun For Mom & Dad Historic Murphy's hotel will send you back to the 1800's. Ironstone Winery.
Nearby Excursions Cave tours just outside town. Lakes and rivers are very close.
Pros & Cons Pros At 5000 feet, the air was amazing. Warm summers and snowy winters Cons Long drive. But my daughter is absolutely fabulous in the car.
